Developing your grappling game came be divided into two main areas: physical training and learning new skills and the two really work together. While most grapplers spend the majority of their time only on the physical training, there's much to be said for increasing your grappling knowledge as well. In this article we will focus on the aspect of learning new skills and developing a habit of continual learning.

There are probably not too many martial artists who put great focus on increasing their grappling knowledge, and who do so consistently on a daily basis. Additionally very few continue to keep studying for years. Those who do are the ones who will be dynamic at what they do.

By continually studying grappling skills you will soon find that your grappling "bag of tricks" grows and you start to develop your own style. You will ultimately be a more knowledgeable fighter than those who are not continually adding to their knowledge base, and therefore a step ahead of the masses.

Building a habit of continually learning takes conscious effort, but here are some simple ways to get started studying new grappling moves daily:

• Read or watch videos for a few minutes every night

• Watch video clips during your lunch break

• Add video clips to your iPod, and watch when you have downtime

Once you make this a habit you'll be well on your way to being at the top of your game. Of course the physical training is also an important aspect. Implement your new grappling moves when training with a partner or working on a grappling dummy. And remember, to be one of the best you have to do what others are not willing to do.

B. Dorris founded the company S.M.A.R.T. Athletics, Inc. He had been constantly involved with martial arts for 36 years. He have operated martial arts schools, taught hundreds of students and logged many, many hours in training, studying and analyzing martial arts. Martial arts had been his life.

He coined the name Combative Arts Concepts to describe his art, since it is a culmination of concepts, tactics and philosophies he had experienced over the years and really falls outside the scope of any one particular style.
